Lao Mountain free-range chicken eggs are a specialty of Laoshan Township, Ganquan County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. As one of the four renowned local food brands of Ganquan, these eggs have in recent years made strong inroads onto urban dining tables with their excellent quality, gaining immense popularity in both urban and broader markets. Outsiders call them "reassuring eggs," while local farmers refer to them as golden eggs on the path to prosperity.

Under the guidance of efforts to promote industrial optimization and upgrading, and to extend the industrial development chain, the poultry farming industry centered around Laoshan has developed rapidly. By leveraging the benefits brought by base development, the poultry farming industry chain has been extended, with production scale and efficiency effectively expanded. After repeated research and evaluation, the decision was made to develop the poultry industry. At the same time, there was a shift in the mode of economic growth, with increased adjustments to the agricultural industrial structure, marking the beginning of poultry farming development.

Especially during 2007, 2008, and 2009, the poultry farming industry in Laoshan Township expanded rapidly. By the end of 2009, the township had 185 chicken coops, with an annual output of over 250,000 chickens. The poultry industry quickly became a significant part of the county’s animal husbandry industrialization, characterized by a high degree of industrialized management, effective poverty alleviation for local farmers, and strong results. To align with industrial development, Laoshan Township established a Poultry Industry Co., Ltd., equipped with transportation tools, and implemented product packaging and branding, including egg coding and green-origin certification. The “Mountain-Raised Eggs” and “Healthy Eggs” gained popularity in Yan’an City and surrounding markets. In addition to forming a poultry company and strengthening association operations, to further improve the industrial chain, Laoshan Township attracted investment in 2005 and 2006 for a parent-stock chicken farm and a chicken product processing plant (Tianxiang Natural Company), and established a poultry disease prevention service center and a materials supply center. These developments further improved the poultry farming industrial system, truly putting Laoshan’s poultry farming on the track of industrialized development. Notably, the launch of a roasted egg production line marked a leap from raw products to value-added processing, enhancing the competitiveness of Laoshan’s poultry products and laying a better foundation for future growth. With the implementation of the Egg and Milk Project and improving market conditions, especially after the completion and operation of the leading Laoshan Poultry Company in 2009—which obtained national Ministry of Agriculture pollution-free origin and product certification—the “Laoshan Village” brand registered trademark was rated as a Famous Trademark of Shaanxi Province in April 2010, and in September 2010, the company obtained a Food Production License. Its main products include over ten varieties across four major series: “Laoshan Village” eco-friendly free-range chickens, selenium-enriched eggs, roasted eggs, marinated eggs, dried eggs, and selenium-enriched feed. The “Laoshan Village” Healthy Eggs won the “Houji Award” at the 15th Yangling Agricultural High-Tech Fair. For the elderly, it is better to eat boiled, steamed, poached, or soft-boiled eggs, as fried or stir-fried eggs, although delicious, are harder to digest. Processing eggs into salted eggs significantly increases their calcium content—from 55 mg per 100 grams to 512 mg, about ten times that of fresh eggs—making them particularly suitable for middle-aged and elderly people with osteoporosis. The “Laoshan Village” Roasted Eggs are made from fresh eggs within 10 days of laying, rich in selenium, and undergo more than ten meticulous processes including steaming, shelling, marinating, baking, vacuum packaging, and sterilization. They feature a bright red gloss, firm whites, sandy yolks, and rich nutrition.
