Last updated 2026-11-08 — Gongshan is home to the Gongshan variety of Asian Yellow Sheep. Due to the region’s high altitude, steep terrain, diverse microclimates, and humid, rainy conditions, common breeds of goats find it difficult to thrive in Gongshan. In 1995, Gongshan Harbor Animal Husbandry Company introduced the Asian Yellow Sheep and established a breeding sheep base at an elevation of 3,000 meters in Galabo, Gongshan, within the “National Dulong Wild Yak Conservation Base.” After years of acclimatization, the Asian Yellow Sheep have become extremely well adapted to Gongshan’s climate. Harbor Animal Husbandry has developed this industry on a large scale through a “company + farmer” model. Thanks to Gongshan’s lush grasslands and varied climate, the meat of Gong Yang is tender and sweet in flavor, making it a premium variety of lamb. (Nujiang)
