Longyuan Pigs
Located deep in the Dulongjiang Gorge, Longyuan was long isolated from the outside world, which naturally led to the development of many unique local species, among which the Longyuan Pig is one. According to experts: "The Longyuan Pig is the livestock breed most closely related to the wild boars of South Asia and is a rare surviving domesticated treasure." The Longyuan Pig is entirely black, with adult sows weighing 20–30 kilograms and adult boars weighing 20–25 kilograms. To protect this new breed, in 1998 the Gongshan Harbor Animal Husbandry Company established a Longyuan Pig conservation farm at an altitude of 1,700 meters in the "National Dulong Wild Yak Conservation Base" in Galabo, Gongshan. After years of development, the farm has grown considerably in scale. Thanks to Gongshan’s lush grasslands and variable climate, the meat of the Longyuan Pig is tender and delicious. (Nujiang)
