The production area includes the administrative regions of five counties and districts under the jurisdiction of Baoshan City, Yunnan Province: Longyang District, Longling County, Shidian County, Changning County, and Tengchong County. Baoshan Lujian Arabica Coffee is a globally renowned and highly acclaimed premium variety. At an exhibition in Beijing, people composed poems in praise of it: “The fragrant coffee from Lujian thrives; guests from near and far gather to savor. In the blossoms of May, spring fills the air, and even after leaving, its fragrance lingers.”

The cultivation of coffee in Baoshan began in the mid-1950s. The first coffee seedlings were introduced from Southeast Asia by the late patriotic overseas Chinese Mr. Liang Jinshan. With careful nurturing by local farmers and technicians, the experience of producing high-quality, high-yield Arabica Coffee in the Lujian Dam was developed. The planted area expanded to over ten thousand acres, and production accounted for approximately 70% of the total coffee output of Yunnan Province. In 1980, over a thousand scientific and technical personnel from within and outside the province visited Lujian Dam to study coffee cultivation. That same year, tens of thousands of pounds of coffee were supplied to the nation as elite varieties for selection. The “descendants” of Lujian Dam Arabica Coffee have spread across the country. Lujian Dam has become one of China’s largest bases for premium coffee varieties.

Lujian Dam Arabica Coffee boasts exceptionally high quality, with 100% purity, small and uniformly sized beans. When brewed, it delivers a rich and aromatic flavor, highly favored in Western countries. As early as the late 1950s, it was rated as a first-class product in London, England. In recent years, with the expansion of international trade, Lujian Dam Arabica Coffee has gained even greater fame. It is regarded as a premium beverage by merchants in Europe, America, Arab countries—especially the United Kingdom, the United States, Egypt, Hong Kong, and Macau—resulting in a supply that cannot meet the demand. Baoshan Lujian Arabica Coffee enjoys global renown for its uniquely exceptional quality: in the late 1950s, it was rated as a first-class product on the London market in the UK and earned the accolade “Lujian No. 1.” At the 1980 National Coffee Conference, it was recognized as “the best coffee in China.” In 1987, a technical president from Nestlé Switzerland who visited Lujian for inspection praised the coffee after tasting it, saying, “This is the best coffee I’ve had in China.” In December 2010, following review by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, it was decided to grant national geographical indication product protection to “Baoshan Arabica Coffee.”
