Wuzhou City is located in eastern Guangxi, within the South subtropical monsoon climate zone, making it highly suitable for cultivating various premium tropical fruits, especially high-quality Sugar Oranges. In recent years, the municipal Party committee and government have consistently prioritized Sugar Oranges as a key agricultural specialty industry. With strong support from the regional Party committee, government, and departments such as the Regional Department of Agriculture, Wuzhou’s Sugar Orange industry has seen rapid growth, becoming the most extensively planted and highest-yielding premium fruit variety in the city. The Sugar Orange industry has emerged as the city’s largest agricultural advantage sector and a major pillar for increasing farmers' incomes, truly a sweet success for local growers.
Thanks to rapid development in recent years, Wuzhou has become the largest Sugar Orange production base in Guangxi. According to incomplete statistics, the city has planted over 160,000 mu (approximately 10,667 hectares) of Sugar Oranges, yielding more than 70,000 tons annually, with annual revenue exceeding 200 million yuan. A large number of specialized households, specialized villages, and households earning over 100,000 yuan have emerged, making it the fastest-growing industry in rural areas.
The towns of Jinzhu in Cenxi City, Dapo in Cangwu County, and Tangbu in Tengxian County have shown the strongest momentum, becoming specialized Sugar Orange towns. Due to the established industry and high-quality produce, the oranges are in high demand both within and outside the region, as well as being exported to Vietnam. Cenxi City leads all counties (cities) in Wuzhou in Sugar Orange development. To further expand the industry, Cenxi has focused on building and promoting the Huangling specialized demonstration village in Jinzhu Town. The city has established 25 demonstration orchards. Additionally, through financial support, seedling subsidies, and awards for top growers, farmers are encouraged to plant Sugar Oranges. Currently, the crop is grown across 14 towns, covering over 80,000 mu, with 50,000 mu bearing fruit. Last year, the city produced 43,000 tons of Sugar Oranges, generating 142 million yuan in output value, marking a new highlight for farmers’ income. The crop has been recognized by the Regional Department of Agriculture as a premium agricultural product of Guangxi. According to statistics, in Jinzhu Town last year, 22 households earned 100,000–200,000 yuan, 14 earned 200,000–300,000 yuan, 5 earned 300,000–500,000 yuan, 3 earned 500,000–1,000,000 yuan, and 2 earned over 1,000,000 yuan from Sugar Oranges.
The Sugar Oranges from Cangwu County are of the highest quality in the region. Thanks to favorable climate and soil conditions in the towns where they are grown, careful fertilization practices, and adherence to pollution-free production standards, Cangwu’s Sugar Oranges ranked first in the 2005 regional quality evaluation. As of July this year, the county has planted over 60,000 mu of Sugar Oranges, with an estimated output of more than 20,000 tons this year. Tengxian County, a rising player in Sugar Orange cultivation, has now exceeded 10,000 mu. In Tangbu Town, all 16 villages grow Sugar Oranges, covering a total of over 7,000 mu. Tan Dong Village in Tangzhou Town saw Zeng Jinyong invest 130,000 yuan earlier this year to lease over 90 mu of mountain land, planting more than 7,000 Sugar Orange saplings, which are now growing well.
