Cenxi Sugar Oranges
Cenxi City is located in the southern part of Wuzhou, south of the Tropic of Cancer. It features a hilly landscape and lies within the subtropical monsoon climate zone. With picturesque mountains and rivers, fertile land, and a favorable climate, the sugar oranges produced here boast bright red skins, tender flesh, thin and easy-to-peel rinds, sweet and juicy flavors, few or no seeds, and are rich in nutrients. The fruit is visually appealing and of high quality, making it suitable for all ages and widely loved by consumers.
Currently, the city's sugar orange cultivation area exceeds 120,000 mu. In 2013, the annual production of fresh sugar oranges reached over 100,000 tons (accounting for 77.1% of the total fruit output, with a production value of 500 million yuan). In 2005, the autonomous region designated Cenxi City as a key development area for sugar oranges, officially recognizing them as one of Guangxi’s advantageous agricultural products. By 2013, more than 55,000 mu of sugar orange orchards in the city had obtained China Green Food certification. As of May 2014, over 109 fruit cooperatives and fruit sales associations had been registered across the city, along with more than 40 post-harvest commercial processing production lines for sugar oranges.
In April 2009, Cenxian-branded sugar oranges were awarded the title of Guangxi Famous Product. In January 2010, Jinzhu Town was officially named the “Hometown of Guangxi Sugar Oranges” by the General Office of the People’s Government of the Autonomous Region. In June 2013, Cenxi City was honored as the “Hometown of China’s Green Ecological Sugar Oranges” by the organizing committee of the China Green Ecological Agriculture Development Forum. Since 2006, Cenxi has successfully hosted seven editions of the “Sugar Orange Festival,” continuously expanding the market influence of Cenxi sugar oranges, enhancing their visibility, boosting sales and distribution, and further accelerating the rapid development of the sugar orange industry. The product is now widely sold in markets across East China, Central China, Northeast China, Southwest China, and South China, and is also exported in large quantities to ASEAN countries and regions such as Vietnam and Thailand.
