The Yellow Cattle is a native cattle breed in China. It has short horns and yellowish-brown or black fur, sometimes with mixed colors, and short hair. It is used for plowing or pulling carts, its meat is consumed as food, and its hide can be used for leather production. Among large livestock or cattle breeds in China, it ranks first in terms of the number raised, with breeding areas covering almost the entire country. In farming areas, it is mainly used for draft work; in semi-farming and semi-pastoral areas, it serves both draft and dairy purposes; and in pastoral areas, it is used for both dairy and meat production. Its body shape and performance vary due to different natural environments and breeding conditions, and it can be divided into three main types: Northern Yellow Cattle, Central Plains Yellow Cattle, and Southern Yellow Cattle. The coat color of Yellow Cattle is mostly yellow, which may be the origin of its name, but there are also reddish-brown and black varieties. The head is slightly coarse and heavy, with varied horn shapes and round horn bases. The body is sturdy, compactly built, with well-developed muscles, strong limbs, and solid hooves.
