1. When outdoors, if you see lightning and hear thunder within 3–5 seconds, it means you are in or near a dangerous area; if your head, neck, or hands feel like ants are crawling on them, or your hair stands on end, it indicates that a lightning strike is imminent. In this case, you should immediately stop walking, bring your feet together, crouch down quickly, hug your knees with both hands, press your chest tightly against your knees, and lower your head as much as possible,...……

If you need to exercise for an extended period in high temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, it’s better to start with endurance exercises in the shade or in water. Replenish fluids before exercising, and you can also observe the color of your urine — darker urine indicates dehydration. With the arrival of the Awakening of Insects solar term, thunderstorms will become more frequent. Therefore, we need to be mindful of lightning protection. Especially outdoors, there is a risk of being struck by lightning during wilderness activities. However, taking scientifically effective measures can significantly reduce this risk: consider the area where lightning activity occurs, observe how far away the lightning is — generally, you can judge the distance by listening to the thunder. Do not take shelter under lightning rods or tall trees. In open areas, do not use an umbrella, as the metal tip can concentrate the electric field. Do not use a mobile phone in open spaces. Crouch down and keep your feet together.
I. Sprained Ankle For beginners, a sprained ankle can be said to be the most common injury. Though not serious, it’s still a nuisance on the mountain. Prevention: 1. The commonly mentioned method: wear a pair of high-top hiking shoes to provide good ankle support. No need to elaborate on this—just a reminder of its importance. For those who used to hate wearing high-tops (like me), at least get a mid-top pair. It might feel slightly uncomfortable at first, but it’s extremely useful when you sprain your ankle. 2. Don’t rush when hiking. My current mantra is: don’t run uphill, don’t jump downhill. When going uphill, don’t ignore the path under your feet due to impatience or wanting to enjoy the scenery (this could lead to greater danger), and when going downhill, your ankles are already quite fatigued. Jumping down a slope of a certain height can easily cause a sprain. Treatment: Using the red spray from Yunnan Baiyao aerosol to cool down the area was quite effective in my experience. Then apply cold compresses within [NL] hours (if you pass by a stream, that’s an excellent opportunity for cold compress). After [NL] hours, apply heat. I believe early treatment is very important for a sprained ankle.

Compared to hitchhiking abroad, it might be a bit more difficult in China. That’s not to say hitchhiking is easy overseas, but rather that it’s a socially more widely accepted practice there.
