Pishangou

Located within Gushanzi Township, Chaoyang County, Pishangou is a municipal-level scenic area, situated 30 kilometers from downtown Chaoyang, 37 kilometers from the airport, and 165 kilometers from the seaport. To better protect the forest ecosystem of Pishangou, the provincial government has approved the area as a provincial nature reserve. The reserve spans approximately 13,800 hectares, including parts of the mountainous and hilly areas in Gushanzi Township and Dongwujiazi Forest Farm at the southern foot of the Nulu’erhu Mountains in northern Chaoyang County, with a core zone covering 4,396.6 hectares.

The entire scenic area features a variety of natural forests, including broadleaf, shrubland, pine woods, and apricot tree forests. Particularly spectacular is the primeval forest where ancient trees and rocks stand tall in dense, wild profusion. Dozens of wildflowers and plants such as apricot blossoms, pear blossoms, azaleas, rhododendrons, hollyhocks, stone pillar flowers, lilacs, and roses bloom throughout the seasons. The landscape is decorated with uniquely shaped peaks and massive rocks, forming a breathtaking natural painting. The area includes attractions such as Tashan (Pagoda Mountain), Houshan (Monkey Mountain), Yantongshan (Chimney Mountain), Nanshan Yijian (Southern Sword Peak), Beixianfeng (Northern Precipice), and Pishan Yitiantian (Pishan Cliff Heaven). Other notable rock formations include Bajie Shi (Pigsy Rock), — Shi (— Rock), Mayashi (Horse-Tooth Rock), Ying Shi (Eagle Rock), Renmian Shi (Human Face Rock), and Xiannren Shi (Immortal Rock). There are also cliff inscriptions such as “Wo Shi Ting Quan” (Resting on Stone Listening to Spring), “Qing Shan Meng Shui” (Dreaming of Mountains and Waters), “Zui Yan Xi Shan” (Drunken Eyes on Streams and Mountains), “Gui Fu Shen Gong” (Supernatural Workmanship), “Xinghua Quan” (Apricot Blossom Spring), and “Gu Yun Wan” (Drum Rhyme Bay). The area is densely packed with extraordinary and whimsical natural sights. A crystal-clear mountain stream flows year-round, naturally forming three uniquely charming waterfalls. Though not “thundering down three thousand feet,” these waterfalls create a dazzling spectacle of flying spray during the typically dry and sweltering summer months, offering visitors a refreshing and uplifting experience.

When spring arrives and flowers bloom, the area attracts a continuous stream of visitors. Especially during the apricot blossom season, when you climb to a high vantage point and gaze over the vast hills blanketed with fragrant white blossoms, it feels as though the mountains are dancing with silver snakes amidst an endless blue sky—transforming the landscape into a world of snow and a sea of flowers, truly a feast for the eyes. Though not noble in status, the apricot blossoms are pure, elegant, and radiantly beautiful. Their moving charm and fresh whiteness captivate visitors, making it hard to tear oneself away from such a scene.
