Dachengzi Pagoda

Dachengzi Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province.

Dachengzi Pagoda is located within the campus of No.1 Middle School in Kazuo Left Wing Mongolian Autonomous County. The pagoda is built of brick in an octagonal, nine-tiered, dense-eave style, featuring hollow arched gateways. Each tier is adorned with carved brick brackets, and the upper sections have a gentle taper. The base is constructed of stone, representing a later reinforcement project. The first tier of the pagoda stands 7 meters tall, while the second tier is approximately 4 meters high. The main cardinal directions—east, west, south, and north—all feature door-like niches resembling Buddhist shrines, while the other four sides are carved with two standing Buddha statues each. The eaves are embellished with carved brick brackets. Above the third tier, apart from the carved brackets, there are no additional decorations. This design differs from typical Liao or Jin dynasty brick pagodas and is quite rare in the northeastern region. On the south side of the pagoda, stone steles are embedded on the eastern and western sides, inscribed with brief records of the pagoda’s restorations and repairs since the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong era. Beneath the pagoda, there is also a small pavilion of brick-and-wood construction, accessible via steps. This combined tower-and-pavilion architectural form is also uncommon, achieving an effect that is both towering and grounded, reflecting the creative ingenuity of ancient Chinese laborers.
