Shengle Museum

Shengle Museum is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

China’s first museum themed around the history and culture of the Xianbei people — Shengle Museum — is located on the eastern side of the ruins of the ancient city of Shengle in Helinge’er County, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. Covering an area of 40,000 square meters with a built-up area of 3,558 square meters, the museum is divided into three exhibition halls: the Spring and Autumn History of the Ancient City of Shengle, the History and Culture of the Xianbei People, and the Restoration Exhibition of the Eastern Han Dynasty Murals in the Xiaobanshen Tomb. These galleries collectively showcase the glorious 140-year history of the Xianbei, a nomadic northern ethnic group that established 14 dynasties. Around the year 260, the Tuoba tribe of the Xianbei migrated to Shengle (now Helinge’er County); in 386, the Tuoba officially established their capital in Shengle, historically known as the Northern Wei Dynasty — the first feudal dynasty in Chinese history founded by a northern ethnic group. After years of military campaigns, by 439, the Northern Wei had unified the north, giving rise to the era of the Northern and Southern Dynasties.
