Mengniu Industrial Tourism Area
The Mengniu Industrial Tourism Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
In August 1999, with the establishment of Inner Mongolia Mengniu Dairy (Group) Co., Ltd. on a piece of barren land in Horinger County, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia’s tourism industry gained a new highlight—industrial tourism. By designing visitor routes in production workshops and other methods, the area displays the entire production process—from production and processing to finished products—of consumer-favorite products such as Mengniu milk, ice cream, yogurt, cheese, and milk powder. This offers visitors insight into Mengniu’s corporate culture, allowing them to understand, trust, and love Mengniu.
The Mengniu Industrial Tourism Area covers an area of 330,000 square meters and has built Asia’s largest ice cream production line. The Mengniu liquid milk production line and corporate culture are the most attractive features for visitors. A fully enclosed tour route is available, with professional guides responsible for receiving, explaining, and managing visitors.
The tourism area has been successively rated as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a national industrial and agricultural tourism demonstration site, a model (research) base for corporate culture construction in China, an outstanding tourist attraction in the autonomous region, a patriotic education demonstration base in Hohhot, one of China’s top ten influential brands in industrial and agricultural tourism, and one of China’s top ten advanced units in corporate culture construction (see image below). National leaders including Hu Jintao, -, -, -, Xi -, Li Keqiang, -, and Li Yuanchao have inspected the company. On August 2, 2004, Sun Gang, then Vice Minister of the National Tourism Administration, visited the company to “diagnose” Mengniu’s industrial tourism. In 2004, the company planned and launched China’s largest-ever tourism event—the “Experience Nature Tour—Mengniu Invites You to the Grasslands”—a campaign that attracted 10,000 visitors and achieved unprecedented success. In 2005, Mengniu’s industrial tourism entered a new phase with the care and support of governments at all levels—national, autonomous region, and Hohhot city—as well as the attention of consumers worldwide.
To ensure high-quality visitor reception, the company initially set up a reception office under the Comprehensive Management Department of the President’s Office, staffed by three employees who mainly handled receptions for government inspections and investment visits. As the company’s reputation grew, the Mengniu Company Tourism Department was established in 2003, with dozens of employees. Mengniu’s industrial tourism gradually became more professional, with a reception capacity of over 500,000 visitors. In 2009, the department was renamed the Tourism Reception Center, building a high-caliber team of guides proficient in bilingual interpretation, including English-Chinese and Mongolian-Chinese, whose ability to receive foreign guests has been recognized by both the Foreign Affairs Office and international visitors.
