The Barhu Grassland Mongolian Gazelle Reserve is located within our banner, with geographical coordinates between 115°31′–117°34′ east longitude and 47°40′–48°36′ north latitude. It covers a total area of 6,580.15 square kilometers. It is a regional-level nature reserve under the autonomous region, primarily aimed at protecting China’s Class II key protected wildlife — such as the Mongolian gazelle — and their habitats. The Mongolian gazelle is a unique wild species inhabiting the Eurasian continent. The area where the Barhu Grassland Mongolian Gazelle Nature Reserve is situated forms an important part of the Eurasian grasslands. The vegetation here belongs to dry hilly grassland, making it one of the best habitats for the gazelle and one of its major distribution areas. The population density here is much higher than in other regions of China. During autumn and winter, visitors can witness herds of hundreds or even thousands of gazelles in the reserve — a truly spectacular sight that continues to attract numerous tourists and experts. The ecological environment within the reserve is excellent, with few residents. The diverse habitats, including grasslands, rivers, and wetlands, provide favorable conditions for the survival and reproduction of wildlife. In addition to the Mongolian gazelle, the reserve is also home to many other animal populations, among which the Pallas's cat, like the gazelle, is a Class II nationally protected animal.

The Barhu Grassland Mongolian Gazelle Nature Reserve has now become a multifunctional, internationally significant model nature reserve that integrates conservation, scientific research, publicity, education, and eco-tourism.
