What’s the best way to go on an island-rounding trip? The Ministry of Transportation’s “99 Taiwan Trip – Public Transport Island Round” is calling for creative island-rounding itineraries from people across Taiwan, using intercity buses, trains, and high-speed rail to travel around the island, aiming for a grand prize of NT$100,000. Hundreds of teams are competing for the prize. From the fierce competition, the organizers selected 20 creative itineraries, and from now until November 10th, they are holding an “Island-Rounding New Bus Riders Online Vote.” Voters also have a chance to win a NT$2,000 EasyCard and a NT$2,000 Taiwan Smart Card.

“99 Taiwan Trip – Public Transport Island Sentiment” selected 20 island-rounding New Bus Riders across four major themes: “Touching Group,” “Loving Riders Group,” “Frugal Group,” and “KUSO Group.” Each group is full of creativity, including the ‘Touching Group’ exploring Taiwanese culture or dreaming of opening a homestay, the ‘Loving Riders Group’ traveling the entire island using only road transport, the ‘Frugal Group’ managing to circle the island in five days for under NT$2,000, and the ‘KUSO Group’ dressing up as the Third Prince and Jesus for a humorous island-rounding journey.

Participants in this project include not only enthusiastic youths but also a 70-year-old elderly couple who made it to the finals, showing the creativity of all age groups in using public transport to go island-rounding. For every vote cast on the event webpage, participants accumulate one lottery chance—the more you vote, the higher your chances of winning. There are a total of 55 prize-winning spots. Additionally, the New Bus Rider with the highest online votes will receive a NT$10,000 bonus.
