Shaman Culture Museum

The Shaman Culture Museum, with an investment of over 12 million yuan, officially commenced construction in August 2005. After more than a year of building, it was completed in June 2007. The total height of the Shaman Culture Museum is

26.5 meters, with the Shaman bronze statue standing at 21 meters, and the exhibition hall covering a construction area of 740 square meters.

Nestled among green mountains and clear waters, the Shaman Culture Museum boasts pleasant scenery. It showcases Shaman culture artifacts from eight ethnic groups: the Daur, Ewenki, Oroqen, Mongolian, Manchu, Korean, Xibe, and Hezhen. The museum is divided into six thematic sections, featuring 26 sets of Shaman costumes and over 300 items including Shaman spirit figurines, spirit drums, photographs, and textual materials. With its rich collection, vivid descriptions, and extensive photographic documentation, the museum vividly presents the ancient civilization of humanity and the original belief culture of northern ethnic minorities.

Shaman culture is a global cultural phenomenon, and the primal beliefs that historically emerged and developed among China’s northern ethnic groups fall within this cultural category. Shaman culture is closely linked to clan bloodline systems and the productive forces of hunting and nomadic cultures, and it shares intrinsic connections with their historical heritage. Therefore, we refer to Shaman culture as a form of primal folk belief culture. It is also a comprehensive primal cultural phenomenon and serves as a source and foundational culture for various forms of expression among northern ethnic groups. It encompasses many areas such as oral history, economic life, conceptual understanding, moral norms, oral literature and art, social and recreational activities, folk customs, and traditional medical knowledge among northern ethnicities. Moreover, it represents the core of the cohesion point in the traditional culture of these northern peoples and has become the source of enduring folk culture and the foundation for creating new and outstanding cultural expressions among them.

The Shaman culture of northern ethnic groups displayed here is just the tip of the iceberg in the vast accumulation of Shaman culture. Through this raw and unfiltered presentation, we hope to enhance understanding of the primal cultures of different ethnicities, thereby fostering mutual understanding and respect, and strengthening ethnic unity. We also hope it will contribute to the healthy development of ethnic cultures and play its rightful historical role in the advancement of the Chinese nation.
