Suspension Bridge Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Suspension Bridge Park is located in the northern part of Zhalantun City and is named after the “suspension bridge” within the park. Covering an area of 68 hectares, it is a comprehensive recreational destination that combines natural and cultural landscapes.

Zhalantun Suspension Bridge Park is now a national 4A-level tourist attraction. After several renovations, it has evolved into a comprehensive scenic area integrating water recreation, animal exhibits, floral displays, stele corridors, and more. Whether you are strolling across the bridge, boating on the water, watching the animals, admiring the flowers, lingering in the stele corridor, walking through the woods, or climbing for a distant view… all will bring you a sense of peace and joy, making you linger without wanting to leave. The Suspension Bridge Park was built shortly after the opening of the Chinese Eastern Railway (China-Eastern Railway) in 1905. Other facilities constructed around the same time include the Six-Nation Hotel (now the Railway Workers’ Canteen), the Chinese Eastern Railway Club (now the Zhalantun City Museum), as well as a sunbathing area, open-air concert hall, and Qiulin Store, among other entertainment venues. While some of these other sites have been lost or completely transformed, only the Suspension Bridge Park has undergone continuous renovations and remains a place for leisure and recreation.

The Zhalantun Suspension Bridge was built in 1905 and is named after the “suspension bridge” within the park. After the opening of the Chinese Eastern Railway, the park initially had only a suspension bridge and a footbridge, serving as a leisure spot exclusively for the Russian aristocracy of the time. After the liberation, the Suspension Bridge Park has been continuously renovated and expanded. In recent years, with ongoing expansion and innovation, the park now greets visitors with a brand-new look and beautiful scenery. Located in the northern part of the city and covering an area of 68 hectares, it is a comprehensive recreational destination that combines natural and cultural landscapes.

Features of the Suspension Bridge

The park is most famous for its “suspension bridge,” which is formed by two large iron cables suspended in the air, with 42 thinner iron cables attached and wooden planks laid underneath. As pedestrians walk across, they feel as though they are floating gently on the water, creating a sensation of drifting as if in a dream and a thrilling sense of euphoria. Other attractions for visitors include the Lake-View Pavilion, Triangular Pavilion, Circular Lake, Moon-Shaped Arch Bridge, and Single-Column Pavilion. The park features towering ancient trees, graceful willows, scattered pavilions, lush green lawns, and shimmering blue waters—truly a picturesque scene at every turn.

Scenery in All Seasons

The scenery of the Suspension Bridge varies with the seasons, each offering a unique mood and distinct beauty. In early spring, blooming trees and weeping willows sway like young maidens experiencing their first romance—graceful and full of charm. In midsummer, the shimmering lake reflects colorful lights, waterside pavilions are fragrant with flowers, butterflies flutter, and birds sing, creating a richly woven tapestry of scenery. In late autumn, forests are painted in layers of color, frost-covered leaves drift, clusters of red maples glow, and the sparse woods form a vibrant autumn palette. In winter, the landscape is draped in silvery white, with snow-laden trees and crystal branches, presenting a world adorned like makeup and a sky sculpted from jade. The four-season scenery of the Suspension Bridge possesses a beauty that even the finest art struggles to depict; its natural vistas offer endless wonders to behold. Like a radiant and multifaceted pearl embedded in the greenery of China’s northern frontier, it stands as a source of pride for the people of all ethnicities in Zhalantun City. “Such scenery is truly a painting, no need for brush or ink to depict its beauty,” wrote the renowned historian Jian Bozan, penning an eternal ode to it.

Cultural Landscapes

As you step into the park, you will sense a strong cultural atmosphere—the famous line by Marshal “Along the Yalu River in Zhalantun, clear streams cradle the water village” is inlaid on the screen wall. There are also preserved poems by renowned writers such as Lao She, Li Zhun, and Ye Shengtao, among many other literary figures. The newly built stele corridor is engraved with calligraphy masterpieces from many leaders and men of letters, reflecting the cultural richness found throughout Suspension Bridge Park.
