Xiushui Scenic Area. The urban area of Zhalantun is surrounded by mountains, and the Yalu River meanders gracefully like a colorful ribbon dancing in the hands of a fairy, scattering through the lush greenery. The picturesque scenery on both banks forms several scenic zones, among which the renowned Xiushui Scenic Area stands out as a jewel. Xiushui Scenic Area is situated at the foot of Yangbi Liang Mountain, about 2 kilometers north of the city. Here, the Yalu River, flowing southward, splits into a branch that reaches this spot and, following the winding mountain terrain, forms a crescent-shaped bay. The two railway tracks of the Binzhou Railway run parallel to it in a serpentine fashion. The area features overlapping green hills, looping blue waters, lush forests, and a profusion of butterflies and bees. The river bay, set against the backdrop of verdant mountains, resembles from afar a blushing maiden with downcast eyes. The calm water surface reflects her delicate and enchanting charm. At dusk, the setting sun casts a glow over the water, as if someone had sprinkled rouge upon it, creating a dazzling display that tints the river red. This idyllic blend of lake and mountain scenery has thus come to be known as Xiushui — a truly fitting and evocative name.

Visiting Xiushui in autumn offers a different kind of charm. In the early morning, a gentle breeze blows and mist envelops the landscape, draping the mountains and waters in a milky, semi-transparent veil. Xiushui, as if just awakening from a dream, appears and disappears amid the haze. As the sun rises, dewdrops roll, and the morning mist washes over Xiushui, leaving it fresh and strikingly beautiful. The blue sky mirrors the clear waters, creating an elegant and serene scene. Autumn winds stir the surface, causing ripples across the pond. The air by the riverside is crisp, sweet, and refreshing, invigorating to the senses. As the autumn sun slowly climbs, the trees and red willows are gradually painted with layers of vibrant hues — reds, yellows, greens, and purples. The frost-kissed forest is ablaze with color. The crisp, clear autumn weather presents a scene both poetic and picturesque. Its natural beauty, exquisite detail, magnificent splendor, and tranquil charm are beyond the ability of even the most skilled painters to capture fully. In the evening, the afterglow of the setting sun outlines Xiushui with sharp, distinct contours. The rugged mountains cast shadows upon the water, while the surface remains as smooth as a mirror, and the air is filled with misty haze. The captivating dusk scenery of Xiushui is something few get to truly appreciate. As for the moonlit pool, its surface shimmers with countless silver reflections. Its vast tranquility and pristine brightness remain hidden away year after year, tucked deep within the mountains, known only to a fortunate few.
