Introduction: Wuzhishan Baihualing is a captivating scenic area nestled in the heart of Wuzhishan. The Baihualing Scenic Area spans several square kilometers. By following the cement road through Baihua Village, a settlement of the Li ethnic group, you’ll soon come upon a majestic mountain range with overlapping peaks and towering ancient trees. On the side of the mountain stands a Guanyin Temple. With its upturned eaves, multiple tiers, carved beams, painted rafters, and resplendent golden hues, the temple houses a dignified and benevolent statue of the Goddess of Mercy. Throughout the year, devout worshippers from nearby regions flock here to offer incense and pray. The scenic area also attracts numerous domestic and international visitors, many of whom enter the temple to admire and pay homage to the deity, keeping the incense burning year-round. Beside the temple grows an ancient banyan tree with sprawling branches and drooping roots, exuding an air of ancient majesty. Legend has it that the tree is several hundred years old, adding a sense of mystery and solemnity to the temple grounds. Continuing along the mountain path and ascending a small hill, you’ll hear the sound of rushing water. Gazing through the veil-like mist, you can faintly make out a magnificent waterfall cascading down the mountainside — the awe-inspiring Baihualing Waterfall. Climbing to the waterfall viewing pavilion, you’ll see the falling waters descending like fluttering silk ribbons, cascading down in three tiers with thunderous roars. The surrounding area is shrouded in mist, creating a uniquely spectacular scene. This waterfall derives its name from Baihualing. Its source lies on the second peak of Baihualing at an altitude of 700 meters, gathering water from a catchment area spanning nearly 2 square kilometers. The stream is flanked by dense virgin forests, with thick ground cover and abundant underground streams that ensure a year-round flow. With a drop of 300 meters and rugged terrain, the water forms a three-tiered waterfall, each level presenting a distinct and picturesque view. A poet once wrote in its praise: "Amidst the torrential rains from the southern sky, white silk ribbons drift atop the mountain peaks; even Huangguoshu’s grand waterfall pales in comparison — the view of Baihualing’s waters is truly unparalleled." Descending from the viewing pavilion and following a staircase of over 200 steps — known as the “Heavenly Ladder” — you’ll pass through a forest corridor cloaked in dense foliage until you reach the lowest-level waterfall viewing platform. There, between two towering ancient trees, the mighty waterfall plunges down the cliffside, sending up sprays of water that resemble “a heavenly maiden scattering blossoms.”
