Striving High School is a historic and prestigious school, founded in 1942 by the renowned patriotic general Fu Zuoyi amidst the flames of the War of Resistance against Japan. General Fu Zuoyi had a deep sense of patriotism and hoped that the school he established would nurture talent for the nation. It was precisely due to his foresight that, during those turbulent war years, he founded the private Striving High School. Moreover, influenced by the educational philosophies of Mr. Tan Kah Kee and Mr. Tao Xingzhi, he developed his own educational ideals.

He stated that education in the future should be use-centered — teach what is to be used, learn what is taught, and do what is learned. General Fu Zuoyi respected teachers and valued education. He believed that students’ fates were determined by their teachers, a school’s fate by its staff, and the founding ideals of a school especially hinged on cultivating an excellent school ethos. Therefore, he placed great emphasis on building a strong teaching faculty and implementing quasi-military management within the school.

Compared with other schools of the time, this approach formed a distinctive characteristic.
