Former Site of Micheng County Museum

The former site of the Micheng County Government is located by the Yangjia River in Sandaoqiao Town, covering a total area of 2,100 square meters with a building area of 708 square meters. The entire complex consists of a main house, east and west wing rooms, a front gate, and a rear wing, forming a traditional courtyard. After more than a year of construction, emergency reinforcement of the cultural relics and the initial setup of the exhibition were completed, making it ready for public opening. The Micheng County Former Site Museum mainly displays historical materials related to the excavation of the Yangjia River, some reconstructed office scenes of the Micheng County Government, and representative intangible cultural heritage. The museum exhibits over 1,000 cultural relics, objects, and photographs, reflecting the historical evolution and local customs of Micheng County.

On August 6, 2017, the centennial commemoration of the excavation of the Yangjia River and the unveiling ceremony of the Former Site of Micheng County Museum were held in Sandaoqiao Town.

Starting in 1917, three generations of the Yang family—Mr. Yang Manshuang and Mr. Yang Mikuang—led impoverished locals in a 13-year struggle to overcome immense hardships and build the 64-kilometer-long Yangjia River, which irrigates 650,000 mu of farmland. For a century, the Yangjia River has nourished the land of Hangjinhouqi and blocked the eastward expansion of the Suntemple Desert. The excavation of the Yangjia River is a testament to the diligence, courage, and wisdom of the people of Hetao, and represents the most precious spiritual wealth of the people of Hangjinhouqi.

Micheng County was named in honor of the contributions of Mr. Yang Mikuang. Since relocating from the seat of the Suiyuan Provincial Government to Shanbah, Micheng County and the entire Hetao region not only supplied food for 100,000 troops, 20,000 horses, and the Suiyuan Provincial Government, but also provided substantial military and civilian resources to the Shaan-Gan-Ning Anti-Japanese Base Area, making significant contributions to the War of Resistance against Japan. The centennial commemoration of the Yangjia River excavation and the inauguration of the Former Site of Micheng County Museum hold great significance in remembering history and inspiring future generations to uphold the fine traditions of their forebears—daring to think, work hard, persevere, and achieve success.
