Originally named "Reservoir Park," Shenzhen East Lake Park in Shenzhen City was first built in 1961, officially opened to the public in 1966, and renamed "Shenzhen East Lake Park" by the 42nd meeting of the Shenzhen Municipal Government in October 1984. It is classified as a municipal-level urban park. By the 1980s, it had become one of the famous "Five Lakes and Four Seas" scenic areas in Shenzhen.

With its beautiful mountains and clear waters, Shenzhen East Lake Park is an early-established, largest-in-size, most-diverse-in-attractions, most-complete-in-facilities comprehensive park in Shenzhen that integrates sightseeing, touring, entertainment, and services.

According to relevant data: Shenzhen East Lake Park covers a red-line area of 177.6 hectares, with 11 major scenic areas, over 120 attractions, and around 30 types of amusement facilities developed.

After years of development, Shenzhen East Lake Park now features 11 major scenic areas, over 120 attractions, and about 30 types of amusement projects. Major scenic areas include the Spoon Hill Scenic Area, Artificial Lake Island Area, Ornamental Flower and Tree Garden, Azalea Sculpture Garden, Bonsai World, Arboretum, Ancient Tree Zone, Fishing Area, and Palm Garden. Key amusement spots include dry-land sledding, Fun Park Amusement Ground, and Fun Animal Garden. The park also offers cultural and recreational facilities such as the Everybody's Happy Open-Air Theater, Red Lychee Calligraphy and Painting Gallery, gateball court, and tennis courts.

Shenzhen East Lake Park also regularly hosts mass entertainment and floral events, enriching the cultural lives of residents and visitors. Every New Year’s Day, a myna bird singing competition is held; during the Spring Festival, a Spring Flower Exhibition takes place; in October, the Shenzhen Bougainvillea (city flower) Exhibition is held; and from November to December, the Shenzhen Chrysanthemum Exhibition is organized.

Lush greenery surrounds the park, with scenery at every turn, attracting many couples to take wedding photos here. Wedding photo season: suitable all year round.

The "No. 1 Gate Scenic Area" of Shenzhen East Lake Park is a popular spot among visitors, featuring garden architecture such as the main gate archway, plaza, reliefs, and fountains; cultural facilities like the Red Lychee Calligraphy and Painting Gallery and open-air theater; and amusement facilities such as the East Lake Dry-Land Sled, Fun Animal Garden, and Children's Playground. At the center of the scenic area stands a 5-meter-tall statue titled "Welcome." Depicting a serene and graceful girl as pure as a bamboo, she extends her arms to welcome guests from all directions, with the natural charm of landscapes flowing seamlessly throughout. This masterpiece was created by Franco-Chinese artist Ms. Wang Henei, a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

Shenzhen East Lake Park has a forested mountain area of 1,800 mu, most of which consists of pine trees planted in the early 1960s by Bao’an County. Due to past outbreaks of pine wood nematode disease, which severely affected tree growth, the park carried out comprehensive management in 1997. The originally pine-dominated forest was transformed into a scenic forest featuring large-leaved bauhinia, flame trees, Acacia mangium, and other species that offer layered visuals, seasonal blooms, fire prevention capabilities, and ornamental value.

The "Palm Garden" of Shenzhen East Lake Park was built in 2000, covering an area of 25,000 square meters. It is one of the larger and more comprehensive palm-specialized gardens in Shenzhen. On the open lawns, over 900 plants of more than 20 varieties are planted, including iconic tropical species such as the royal palm, king palm, false betel nut, triple betel nut, golden cane palm, beautiful needle palm, oil palm, wild date palm, and date palm.

The Ancient Tree Zone is located east of the Bonsai World and south of the Flower and Tree Garden in Shenzhen East Lake Park. Opened in 1997, it covers an area of 400 square meters. The ancient and notable trees planted here—such as small-leaf banyans, skew-leaf banyans, hackberries, and fish trees over a hundred years old—were transplanted from Caiwuwei.
