Monument to the Liberation of Nei Lingding Island

The Monument to the Liberation of Nei Lingding Island is a cultural relic protection unit of Shenzhen.

Nei Lingding Island faces the Nantou Peninsula of Shenzhen across the sea. It is a small island located among Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macau, covering a total area of 550 hectares, and was liberated in 1950. To commemorate the soldiers who bravely sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War, this Monument to the Liberation of Nei Lingding Island was built on the school field. The monument was erected in August 1950, stands 12 meters tall, with the inscription "Monument to the Liberation of Nei Lingding Island" on the front and "Eternal Glory to the People's Heroes" on the back. It presents a very majestic and magnificent appearance. The Monument to the Martyrs of the Liberation of Nei Lingding Island was inscribed by General Zeng Sheng himself.

On April 18, 1950, the 390th Regiment of the 130th Division of the 44th Army of the People's Liberation Army was tasked with capturing Nei Lingding Island in the Battle of the Wanshan Islands during the liberation of the coastal areas of Guangdong. Through the unity of the military and civilians, the mission was accomplished with complete success. Sixteen seasoned combat officers and soldiers, who had endured the trials of gunfire and battle, unfortunately sacrificed their lives heroically and were laid to rest on the southern shores of Pengcheng. The troops and local government solemnly buried these 16 martyrs together with six grain collection team members from Xixiang, Bao'an, who had also sacrificed their lives around the same time, at the Bao'an School Field (now near the South Gate Ancient City and Zhongshan Park).

In 1984, the Monument to the Liberation of Nei Lingding Island was designated as a cultural relic protection unit by Shenzhen. The surroundings of the monument feature a beautiful environment, with ancient trees towering above, lush green lawns, and vibrant flower arrangements.
