China Merchants History Museum

The China Merchants History Museum is a cultural tourism attraction.

The China Merchants History Museum is the first corporate history museum in Shenzhen, established by China Merchants Group. Through a wealth of historical materials, photos, and artifacts — nearly 500 cultural relics — the museum comprehensively recreates the challenging journey of China Merchants Group since its founding by Li Hongzhang, especially during the early stages of reform and opening-up when it was involved in industrial development.

The newly designed exhibition hall employs realistic presentation techniques with an innovative layout, combining text and images. It features solemn yet pleasing colors, well-balanced lighting effects, and an atmosphere steeped in deep and distant history.

Lin Mo, also affectionately called Muniang, is fondly referred to by locals as “Auntie,” “Goddess Mother,” or “Mazu.” She was from Putian.

Born on March 23 of the first year of the Jianlong era during the Song Dynasty (960 AD) into an official family on Meizhou Island, Putian County, Lin Mo never cried from birth until she was one month old, hence her name “Mo,” also known as “Muniang.” Her great-grandfather, Baoji, served as a military commander under the Zhou regime but later resigned from office and lived in seclusion on Meizhou. Her grandfather, Fu, inherited the family’s honors and served as the Fujian Regional Commander. Her father, Yuan, was an official patrol inspector of Fujian during the early Song Dynasty. Lin Mo was exceptionally intelligent; at the age of 8, she could already grasp the gist of texts while studying with a tutor.
