Approved by the central government, the He Xiangning Art Museum was established in Shenzhen on May 13, 1995, and opened to the public on April 18, 1997. The then General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Jiang Zemin, inscribed the museum's name. It is China’s first national-level art museum named after an individual.

The He Xiangning Art Museum covers a construction area of over 5,000 square meters. Its main structure features a palette of gray and white tones, presenting an elegant and dignified appearance. The architectural style is minimalist and unadorned, exuding a modern sensibility within a rich traditional cultural ambiance, while also reflecting the character of Madam He Xiangning throughout her life. The museum building has three floors and houses a main exhibition hall, auxiliary exhibition halls, an information desk, a VIP lounge, a multi-functional lecture hall, a collection storage area, studios, an art training center, a mounting room, as well as supporting facilities such as a café and a bookstore.

The He Xiangning Art Museum is fundamentally dedicated to the collection, display, and research of the artistic creations and related literature of Madam He Xiangning. Its primary academic endeavors include the planning, presentation, collection, and research of outstanding works by overseas Chinese artists, female artists, and emerging young creators, as well as the organization and preservation of relevant art history documentation. The museum emphasizes the exchange, introduction, and promotion of both Chinese and international contemporary art.

Since its establishment, the He Xiangning Art Museum has served as a public art institution for the dissemination and promotion of He Xiangning’s art and contemporary art. It has created core academic brands such as the "He Xiangning Art Exhibition," the "Shenzhen International Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition," the "He Xiangning Art Museum Academic Forum," the "He Xiangning Art Museum Academic Lecture Series," and the "Outstanding Graduation Works Exhibition of Oil Painting Majors from National Art Academies." In 2005, it established the "OCT Contemporary Art Terminal" to integrate domestic and international contemporary art resources and promote the integration of Chinese contemporary art with the global stage.

To advance the exchange and development of He Xiangning’s art, Chinese contemporary art, and international art, the He Xiangning Art Museum actively engages at the forefront of China’s reform and opening-up, operating within the special economic zone. After more than a decade of unremitting effort, it has built significant influence within China’s art circles, academia, and society, establishing an image as a contemporary, academic, and knowledge-oriented art museum, gradually extending its reach to the international arena.

The museum primarily focuses on the collection, display, and research of He Xiangning’s paintings and calligraphy, providing comprehensive services for artists, audiences, connoisseurs, and collectors. It regularly hosts exchange forums, lectures, live creation sessions, and other activities.

Admission/Ticketing Hours

1. Combination ticket (includes access to both the museum and outdoor exhibition spaces): 20 RMB per person; students: 10 RMB per person. Single-entry ticket (outdoor exhibition space only): 10 RMB per person; students: 5 RMB per person.

2. Seniors aged 60 and above, people with disabilities, and active-duty military personnel (including armed police), upon presenting valid ID (such as ID card, disability certificate, military ID, or household registration book), may enter the museum free of charge.

3. Organized group visits from municipal government agencies or enterprises and institutions may enjoy free entry by presenting a letter of introduction from their organization and making a reservation in advance.

4. Opening hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00–17:30. Every Friday is a free admission day, when the public may visit without charge.
