Xiangnan Village Site

The Xiangnan Village Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Xiangnan Village Site is located on the tombolo of Shekou Peninsula in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, and has now been developed into a neighborhood area. It dates back to the Shang Dynasty. The site covers an area of approximately 10,000 square meters. In 1996, 1,030 square meters were excavated. The thickest cultural layer reaches 1.6 meters. Some deposits contain shells. Remains include red burned soil and a roughly circular pile of stones. Artifacts consist of pottery, stone tools, as well as bone and horn implements. The pottery is mostly sandy clay, with some fine clay pieces, including ding (cauldrons), guan (jars), zun (wine vessels), bowls, basins, plates, pedestals, spinning whorls, and net sinkers. There are many round-bottomed and ring-footed vessels, with fewer concave-bottomed ones. Decorations include cord marks, grid patterns, long grid patterns, vein patterns, wavy lines, various cloud-and-thunder motifs, double-line grid patterns, double-line grid patterns with raised dots, as well as combinations of vein and grid patterns, cloud-and-thunder with circles, and wavy with circle patterns. Stone tools include adzes, dagger-axes, arrowheads, rings, and net sinkers, among which there are shoulder-bladed and segmented types. Other items include bone spinning whorls, arrowheads, sinkers, and horn awls.
