Shan Mountain

Shan Mountain, also known as Canli Mountain, is located near Fenghuang Rock in Fuyong, Bao’an District. Legend has it that during the Jin Dynasty, a local man named Huang Shu was known for his filial piety. The villagers compared him to Zeng Shen (one of Confucius’ seventy-two disciples), hence the name. Huang Shu lived in a place called Canli, and the mountain nearby was also called Canli Mountain. The mountain is home to Yunxi Temple, surrounded by towering ancient trees. The ancient poet Pan Yi wrote a poem titled “Drinking at Shan Mountain in Honor of the Filial Son Huang”:

Towering ancient trees cast deep shade, the scene most serene; Admired were those of noble rank from the Jin Dynasty scene. Where once stood palaces, now fields of grain sway, The stone tablet’s buried in dust, yet traces still stay.

Among sparse woods birds cry in tangled flight, Misty clouds float o’er peaks in rich green light. Through shifting times and ages, hills and vales weep, Yet his enduring fame through history shall leap.

Shan Mountain boasts numerous tall trees, including many rare and precious species, making it a must-visit spot for plant enthusiasts. With its unique scenery and tranquil environment, it is also a great place for relaxation, recreation, and gatherings.
