Bao'an Yongxing Bridge
Yongxing Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by Bao'an District, Shenzhen.
Yongxing Bridge was first built during the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty and was renovated in 1984. The bridge is 50 meters long, 3.4 meters wide, and has three arches, each over 5 meters high. The entire structure is built from granite stones, featuring a rigorous structure and elegant design. It is now a provincial-level cultural heritage site.
The Xinjiang River beneath the bridge merges with the Maozhou River before flowing into the Pearl River. The eastern bank of Yongxing Bridge is home to the ancient Qingping Market, which served as a commercial trading and distribution hub until the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period. Today, only one ancient street and several shops remain. A watchtower-style residential building, locally referred to as the "pawnshop," still stands on the southern side of Yongxing Bridge.
"During the Kangxi era, a supervised scholar named Zeng Qiaochuan built the bridge, but it later deteriorated over time. In the 50th year of the Qianlong reign (1785 AD), martial scholar Zeng Daxiong, imperial scholar Zeng Liankui, tribute student Zeng Tengguang, and Zeng Yingzhong initiated and donated funds for its reconstruction." In 1984, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of cultural heritage sites protected by Shenzhen Municipality and has since undergone further restoration.
Yongxing Bridge "is surrounded by white stones, spanning over three zhang in width, more than ten zhang in length, and over five zhang in height. It has three arches, with railings on top. The construction is massive and quite solid." After the 1984 renovation, the bridge is 50 meters long, 3.4 meters wide, and has three arches, each over 5 meters high, with railings on top. The railings feature carved patterns of dragons and phoenixes, while the bridge’s end pillars are adorned with vividly sculpted stone lions. The entire structure is built from granite stones, featuring a rigorous structure and elegant design.
"Yongxing Bridge... locks the front stream and spans both banks, lying at a crucial junction for traffic. To the east, it connects to roads leading to Huangsonggang and Wushiyen; to the west, it links to markets in Yunlin and Maozhou." The Xinjiang River beneath the bridge merges with the Maozhou River before flowing into the Pearl River. The original piers and Wenchang Pagoda at the bridgehead once complemented Yongxing Bridge’s scenery in a magnificent display, but unfortunately, they no longer exist.
The eastern bank of Yongxing Bridge is home to the ancient Qingping Market, which served as a commercial trading and distribution hub for areas such as Songgang, Shiyan, Gongming, Shajing, and Fuyong until the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period. It gradually declined thereafter, and today only one ancient street and several shops remain. A watchtower-style residential building, locally referred to as the "pawnshop," still stands on the southern side of Yongxing Bridge. Having stood for over 300 years, Yongxing Bridge is one of the rare ancient bridges in Shenzhen and a testament to the wisdom and craftsmanship of the people of ancient Shenzhen.
Yongxing Bridge is the only stone arch bridge in Shenzhen. Its sturdy structure and elegant design showcase a high level of engineering technology and artistic value. In September 1984, it was designated as a cultural heritage site protected by Shenzhen Municipality.
