Zhenhai Wenge Pavilion is a cultural heritage site protected by Shenzhen Municipality.

Wenchang Pavilion

Built during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong era (1736–1795), the pavilion houses a stone tablet from the Guangxu era inscribed with the “Record of the Reconstruction of Wenge Pavilion.”

Zhenhai Wenge Pavilion has three stories, is square in shape, with each side measuring 4.2 meters and a total height of about 12 meters. The floors are separated by lotus petal supports or large tooth-patterned bricks, while the eaves are adorned with glazed qilin statues, and the surroundings feature relief carvings of flowers, grass, trees, and human figures, showcasing high craftsmanship. Inside the pavilion, there are floorboards and doorways that allow visitors to climb up and enjoy the sea view. The stone lintels of the three floors of Zhenhai Wenge Pavilion are inscribed with three horizontal plaques that read “Ascending to Inner Chambers,” “Climbing Yet Another Floor,” and “Reaching the Summit,” respectively. It is said these were written by an immortal who descended to Gushu hundreds of years ago while holding a writing brush. Originally, a wooden brush—referred to as the “Literary Brush”—stood atop the pavilion, but it was burned in a fire during the Qianlong era.

Zhenhai Wenge Pavilion is the only ancient pavilion structure remaining in Shenzhen and remains well-preserved to this day. It was designated as a key cultural heritage site under Shenzhen municipal protection in 1984.
