Former Site of Shiyan Shangwu Hot Coil Factory: A cultural heritage site under the protection of Bao’an District, located at No. 6 Yonghe Road, Shangwu Community, Shiyan Subdistrict, Bao’an District. The former site of the Shangwu Hot Coil Factory (Building 3) was built in 1983. It faces west and has a construction area of 2,600 square meters. After completion, it was used by Hong Kong Yico Hot Coil Factory. In July 1978, Hong Kong Yico Hot Coil Factory cooperated with Shangwu Brigade of Shiyan Commune to trial-run a processing plant, establishing China’s first “Three Comes, One Supplement” enterprise. On December 18, 1978—the day the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, a meeting that changed the future and destiny of the nation, commenced—this factory and Shangwu Village officially signed an agreement to establish the “Shangwu Hong Kong Yico Hot Coil Factory.” On April 28, 2008, the Bao’an District Culture Bureau repurposed the old site into the “Shenzhen (Bao’an) Migrant Workers Museum.” On September 2010, it was designated as a cultural heritage site under the protection of Bao’an District by the Bao’an District People’s Government.

The Bao’an Migrant Workers Museum is China’s first thematic museum dedicated to the history of migrant workers and serves as a historical witness to 30 years of Shenzhen’s reform and opening-up. The museum was formerly Shenzhen’s first “Three Comes, One Supplement” enterprise and retains production lines from three different eras, migrant worker dormitories and canteens, a screening hall, as well as exhibition halls displaying various historical materials and artifacts related to migrant workers over 30 years. In 2011, it was named one of the first batch of red tourism scenic spots in Shenzhen.

Shiyan Subdistrict: Established as Shiyan Commune in July 1975, upgraded to Shiyan District in July 1985, and reverted to a town called Shiyan Town after the district was abolished in October 1986. On January 1, 1993, when Bao’an County was restructured into Bao’an District, Shiyan Town came under the jurisdiction of Shenzhen’s Bao’an District. On July 1, 2004, Shiyan Town was restructured into Shiyan Subdistrict. In December 2007, the subdistrict established nine community workstations, overseeing 21 community neighborhood committees.
