The Zamyn-Üüd Port is Mongolia’s largest land border crossing, facing Erenhot across the border, with the two cities just 9 kilometers apart. The border area covers 48 square kilometers, with the urban area spanning 9 square kilometers and a population of around 8,500, primarily ethnic Khalkha Mongols. Residents in the urban area are mainly engaged in commerce and services. Major attractions in the city include the station building with a blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles, an European-style square in front of the station, the Sükhbaatar Monument, government office buildings, small wooden houses, a cluster of yurts, department stores, and more. About 3 kilometers from the urban area lies a resort where visitors can go horseback riding, hunting, and enjoy bonfire parties, fully experiencing Mongolian folk customs, song and dance culture, and other exotic attractions. Mongolia is currently developing the Zamyn-Üüd Free Economic Zone, which operates as a separate bonded area within Mongolian territory but outside its customs zone. The planned facilities include a commercial district, processing zone, entertainment zone, and an international airport. Foreign investors will enjoy preferential policies such as exemption from customs duties, and foreign citizens can enter and exit freely with just a passport or their national ID card without needing a visa.
