The Pingyao Ridge Cliff Carvings are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

The Pingyao Ridge Cliff Carvings are located in Laopai, Junliao Village, Daping Township, Liannan County. In the 15th year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1642), the Panyao people launched an uprising. General Zheng Zhilong was ordered to lead 30,000 troops from Zhangzhou and Chaozhou to suppress the rebellion. They captured Libadong, Huoshaoping, Dazhang, and Junliao among other Yao villages, burning them to the ground. He specifically ordered the military supervisor Dong Meiding to carve the three characters “Ping Yao Ling” (Pingyao Ridge) on the cliff face to commemorate the suppression of the Yao people. The three characters are carved on a cliff surface that is 8 meters high and 6 meters wide, in intaglio regular script. Each character is 0.60 meters high and 0.60 meters wide.

In 1986, the People’s Government of Liannan County designated it as a cultural heritage protection site.

Junliao Village: Junliao Village is 15 kilometers from the county seat of Liannan. To the east is Sanpai Town of the same county, to the south is Woshui Town of the neighboring township, to the west is Daping Village of Daping Town, and to the north is Niulushui of Daping Town. The village has 9 villager groups, comprising a total of 726 households and 2,776 residents. Among them, there are 385 impoverished households with a per capita income below 1,500 yuan, totaling 1,552 people, including 416 students living in poverty. In 2010, the per capita income of the entire village was 2,500 yuan, and the village collective had a net income of 15,000 yuan. It is a poor Yao ethnic mountain village located in a remote border area.
