Hualin Temple Pagoda

The Hualin Temple Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

The Hualin Temple Pagoda is located near Xiaxu Village in Wenshou Town. Beside the pagoda once stood a temple called Hualin Temple (now in ruins), hence the pagoda is also known as the "Hualin Temple Pagoda," a name that has been used to this day. The pagoda was built in the fifth year of the Yuanfeng era during the Northern Song Dynasty (1082).

The pagoda is a hexagonal, seven-story brick structure with arched gateways, eaves, and flat terraces in the pavilion style. It is solid inside but has a brick staircase that winds around the flat terrace up to the top level.

In 1990, comprehensive renovations were carried out with funding from the provincial cultural relics management office. During the renovation, 98 bronze coins bearing reign titles from the Northern Song Dynasty—including Xianping, Jingde, Xining, and Yuanfeng—were found between the fifth and sixth levels on the southwest corner of the pagoda, along with one celadon cup, three small broken silver Buddhist statues, and one inscribed brick and one dated brick. The dated brick bears a running script inscription in intaglio: "Constructed on the 20th day of the ninth month, Yuanfeng fifth year." The inscribed brick reads in running script intaglio: "Daoist Xie contributes to building the pagoda (as a good deed)." The Hualin Temple Pagoda was listed as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit in 1989.
