Civilization Peak Pagoda and Archway Peak Pagoda

Civilization Peak Pagoda and Archway Peak Pagoda are cultural tourism attractions.

Civilization Peak Pagoda is located atop Tongziping Mountain, about 1 kilometer east of Changjiang Town. It was originally built in the 25th year of the Wanli reign during the Ming Dynasty (1597) and renovated in the Ji Hai year of the Daoguang reign (1839) during the Qing Dynasty.

The pagoda is a hollow, seven-story, hexagonal structure with false balconies and arched gateways, designed in the pavilion style. It stands 19.2 meters tall. The first level features a double-arched gateway, with a red sandstone plaque above the outer arch inscribed with the three characters “Civilization Peak” (文明峰) in intaglio script, and a signature in the lower right corner reading “Erected on a lucky day in the winter month of the Dingyou year, Wanli reign.” The inner arch is inscribed with the two characters “Lun Yuan” (抡元).

Archway Peak Pagoda is situated atop Zhangshuibai Mountain, approximately 3 kilometers southwest of Changjiang Town. It was originally built in the 26th year of the Wanli reign during the Ming Dynasty (1598) and renovated in the Ji Hai year of the Daoguang reign (1839) during the Qing Dynasty.

The architectural style and design of Archway Peak Pagoda are largely the same as those of Civilization Peak Pagoda, and the two pagodas stand facing each other, often referred to as sister pagodas. Its arch is adorned with a red sandstone plaque inscribed with the three characters “Archway Peak” (华表峰) in intaglio script. The upper left corner of the plaque is engraved with “Re-erected by local families on a lucky day in the winter month of the Ji Hai year, Daoguang reign,” while the lower right corner reads “Erected on a lucky day in the winter month of the Wuxu year, Wanli reign.” This pagoda is exquisitely crafted and has a more unique shape compared to Civilization Peak Pagoda, resembling a large bell perched atop the mountain when viewed from afar.
