Propaganda by the First Brigade

In October 1933, Chiang Kai-shek of the Kuomintang mobilized a million troops to launch the fifth “encirclement and suppression” campaign against the Central Revolutionary Base Area. The First Front Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army fought bravely but suffered defeat. In October 1934, they were ordered to carry out a strategic shift—the Long March. On October 31, the left wing of the First Front Army, including the First and Ninth Army Corps as well as parts of the Third, Fifth, and Eighth Army Corps, successively passed through Changjiang and Chengkou. They withdrew by November 9, moving separately into Lechang and Rucheng County in Hunan.

The slogans above were written by the First Army Corps of the First Front Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army during their overnight stay while marching through Changjiang.

In 1989, the People’s Government of Renhua County designated this as a cultural relics protection site.
