Former Residence of Wei Nanjin

The former residence of Wei Nanjin is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Wei Nanjin is located in Xiheling Village, Yongguang, Longmu Town, Longchuan County. Built during the Qing Dynasty, it faces south with a north orientation, features a three-courtyard and two-wing layout, is constructed with brick and tile, and covers a construction area of approximately 1,100 square meters. It is now largely well-preserved.

Wei Nanjin (1914–2001) was a native of Xiheling Village, Yongguang, Longmu Town, Longchuan. In 1934, he studied at Guangdong Provincial No. 1 Middle School (now Guangya Middle School). In August 1936, he joined the underground movement led by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), embarking on the path of revolution. In the winter of 1938, he joined the CCP in Longchuan and served as Secretary of the Renhe Branch of the Yonghe Party Committee. Later, he successively held positions such as Standing Committee Member and Head of the Propaganda Department of the Longchuan County CCP Committee, Standing Committee Member and Head of the Youth Department of the Longchuan Central County CCP Committee, Secretary to CCP Secretary Zhang Wenbin of Guangdong Province, Secretary and Special Commissioner of the Nanxiong Central County CCP Committee, and Deputy Special Commissioner and Head of the Organization Department of the Beijiang Special Committee.

In early 1944, to carry out anti-Japanese armed struggle in the enemy’s rear in northern Guangdong and restore party organizational activities, Wei Nanjin went to Guilin to seek the CCP organization. At that time, due to the destruction of the Guangxi CCP organization, contact with the Party was interrupted, so he joined the anti-Japanese “Cultural Resistance Team” led by Tian Han and temporarily worked as a teacher at a middle school in Guangxi as a cover. In August 1945, following instructions from the CCP Guangdong organization, he returned to Guangdong, attended a meeting chaired by Huang Songjian, Secretary of the Beijiang Special Committee, where it was decided to establish a guerrilla base in the Guangxi-Guangdong border region, and it was resolved that Wei Nanjin would serve as a Standing Committee Member of the Guangxi-Guangdong Border Special Committee and oversee party affairs in eastern Guangxi. In August 1946, Wei Nanjin returned to work in Guangdong and was appointed Secretary of the Lianyang Central County CCP Committee (encompassing Lian County, Lianshan, and Yangshan). In December of the same year, he attended the expanded meeting of the Guangdong Regional Party Affairs convened by Fang Fang and Lin Ping in Hong Kong, where it was decided to resume armed struggle in Guangdong. In March 1947, he was dispatched by the Party organization to the Jiulian region to carry out guerrilla armed struggle, successively serving as a Standing Committee Member of the Jiulian Working Committee, Secretary of the Jiulian District CCP Committee, Political Commissar of the Guangdong-Guangxi-Jiangxi Border Detachment, and Acting Director of the Political Department of the Guangdong-Guangxi-Jiangxi-Central China Border Column, contributing to the liberation of the Jiulian region.

In May 1949, when Longchuan was liberated, Wei Nanjin also served as Secretary and County Magistrate of the Longchuan County CCP Committee. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he successively held positions such as Standing Committee Member and Head of the Organization Department of the Pearl River Regional CCP Committee, Deputy Secretary-General of the South China Finance Committee, Standing Committee Member and First Deputy Director of the East Guangdong Administrative Office, Commissioner of the Shantou Prefecture, and Deputy Minister of the Finance and Trade Department of the Guangdong Provincial CCP Committee. After 1958, he served as Deputy Secretary, First Deputy Director, and later Director of the Hainan Administrative Region. During the Cultural Revolution, he was persecuted but still assisted the military control committee in organizing production. After 1971, he served as Standing Committee Member, Deputy Secretary, Director of the Revolutionary Committee, and Director of the Administrative Office of the Hainan Administrative Region. He was elected as a deputy to the Fifth National People’s Congress. In 1979, during the Xisha Islands defense operation in the South China Sea, he was a member of the leadership group responsible for logistical support. In 1982, he was transferred to serve as Director of the Guangdong Provincial Foreign Economic Work Committee. In 1984, he became a Standing Committee Member of the Guangdong Provincial CCP Committee Advisory Commission, retired in 1988, and enjoyed the treatment of a deputy provincial level official and veteran Red Army member. In June 2001, Wei Nanjin passed away in Guangzhou at the age of 87. He authored works including “Footprints on the Treasure Island.”

Longmu Town: Longmu Town is situated upstream of the Han River, in the central part of Longchuan County. The town covers an area of 148.2 square kilometers, with 29,251 mu of arable land and 150,000 mu of mountainous land. It is a major agricultural town primarily focused on grain production.

The town administers 17 village committees, 1 neighborhood committee, and 342 economic cooperatives, with a total population of 50,063. There are 25 enterprises and institutions in the town, including Longmu Middle School, Yonghe Middle School, Vocational Middle School, Central Court, National Tax Sub-bureau, and Local Tax Sub-bureau.
