Former Site of the Longchuan County Soviet Government
The Former Site of the Longchuan County Soviet Government is a cultural relic protection unit of Longchuan County and a classic red tourism destination.
The Former Site of the Longchuan County Soviet Government is located in Shangyin Village, Sanyin Village, Tuocheng Town, Longchuan County.
In the spring of 1928, Huang Ke, an early member of the Communist Party in Longchuan, a second-term student at the “Guangzhou Peasant Movement Institute,” and a young man from Sijia, returned to his hometown upon orders from the Guangdong Provincial Committee to organize revolutionary activities after participating in the Guangzhou Uprising. Upon returning to Longchuan, Huang re-elected the Special Branch of the Communist Party in Longchuan and served as its secretary. In early February, Huang convened a representative conference of nearby township peasant associations, the county peasant association, and the peasant self-defense army in Shangyin Village, Sijia, establishing the Longchuan County Soviet Government. The government was composed of four departments: finance, propaganda, peasant movement, and military affairs. The conference elected Huang Ke, Huang Juequn, Yang Fusheng, Chen Jiping, and others as executive committee members of the government, with Huang Ke serving as the chairman of the Longchuan County Soviet Government. The revolutionary forces from Sijia, Pingtian, Heshi, Tongqu, Dengyun, and Huangbu were combined into the “First Army of the Dongjiang Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army,” with Liu Qinxī, an inspector from the Dongjiang Special Committee, appointed as the nominal army commander. After its establishment, the County Soviet Government implemented directives from higher authorities, cooperated with the Dongjiang Special Committee of the CPC to carry out the “New Year’s Uprising” plan, and swiftly organized and launched the shocking armed uprising in Heshi, Longchuan, which sent tremors through the upper reaches of the Dongjiang region. This event marked the first time that the CPC in Longchuan led workers and peasants in an armed struggle to seize political power, laying the foundation for the people of Longchuan to persist in prolonged revolutionary efforts.
The original site was a traditional Hakka square house, built with bricks and wood, covering an area of nearly one thousand square meters. It was rebuilt on the original site in 2009. The structure faces west and features a two-courtyard layout. It is 16 meters wide and 15 meters deep, with a construction area of 240 square meters. The walls are made of blue bricks, with cement square pillars, gray tiled roofing, and a cement floor.
In September 1986, it was designated as a key cultural relics protection unit by the Longchuan County Government. In November 2010, it was recognized as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
