Longchuan Confucian Temple

Longchuan Confucian Temple is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

Longchuan Confucian Temple is located in Qianxue, Tuocheng Town, Longchuan County. Originally built in the seventh year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1668), it consists of a screen wall, corridors, the Lingxing Gate, the Pan Pond, an arched bridge, east and west side halls, the Dacheng Hall, the Minglun Hall, and the Zunjing Pavilion. Due to years of neglect, parts of it have been damaged. The surviving structures include the Dacheng Hall, Minglun Hall, and Zunjing Pavilion.

The Dacheng Hall faces south. It is 26.56 meters wide and 24.40 meters deep, with a height of 18 meters, covering an area of 440 square meters. It features a hip-and-gable roof with double eaves extending on all four sides, and a mixed bracket-and-beam roof structure. The eaves are adorned with layered brackets, and the beams and columns are decorated with gilded carvings of phoenixes, birds, fish, and dragons, giving the hall a classic and dignified appearance. A golden plaque inscribed with “Imperially Bestowed Hall of the Great Sage and Master Confucius” was hung on the main gate of the hall in the first year of the Jiaqing reign (1796). The front features a rolled-canopy-style corridor. Judging from the design of the stone pillars, the beam structure, and the carving techniques, the corridor is distinctly in the Qing Dynasty style. The stone pillars around the hall do not have brackets but directly support the eave beams. Multiple sets of brackets are installed under the upper eaves.

In 1962, it was designated as a cultural heritage site by the People's Committee of Longchuan County. In 2008, it was listed as part of the fifth group of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Heritage Sites by the People's Government of Guangdong Province.

Tuocheng Town: Located at the southernmost tip of Longchuan County, Tuocheng Town has a history of 2,221 years and is one of the first batch of famous historical and cultural towns in Guangdong Province. It has long been a key hub for political, economic, and cultural activities in Longchuan County. The town covers a total area of 218 square kilometers, with 17 administrative villages and one neighborhood committee, and a total population of 43,218.
