The Former Battlefield Site of the Dragon Mother Battle is located at Dengwei Pavilion in Shuanghua Village, Longmu Town, Longchuan County.

After the liberation of Laolong, in the northeast region of Guangdong centered around Laolong, aside from the 196th Division stationed in Heyuan City, the Kuomintang troops and local government forces either surrendered, were annihilated, or defected. Only the county armed forces of around 300 men under Xie Hong’en and Huang Daoren holed up in the mountainous northern part of Longchuan, plotting to join forces with the remnants of Hu Lian’s army to launch a counterattack. To completely eliminate this stubborn local force, Yan Shangmin, Chief of Staff of the Border Column, ordered the newly formed 1st Battalion of the Independent 4th Regiment (formerly the main 3rd Regiment) — consisting of over 600 men — along with over 600 men from the County Public Security Corps, to be deployed under the command of County Magistrate Wei Nanjin to eliminate these two enemy forces. In mid-July, when the forces of Xie and Huang retreated back to Longmu Town, our troops got wind of their movements and immediately established the Longmu Battle Command to prepare an encirclement and annihilation operation against the remnants of Xie and Huang. At dawn on the 24th, the battle began. The contingent of Huang Daoren stationed in Outang Village was swiftly annihilated by our forces, with Huang fleeing under the cover of night along the river. The forces of Xie Hong’en held out stubbornly inside a fortified watchtower in Dengwu. The 1st Battalion surrounded the watchtower and, after failed attempts at persuasion for surrender, launched a full assault under the command of Battalion Staff Officer Chen Su, Battalion Commander Mai Qihua, Deputy Battalion Commander Zeng Kunyan (Yan), and Political Instructor Chen Junming. After three days of fierce fighting, by the 27th, the watchtower was finally breached, and Xie Hong’en was captured alive. Aside from those killed in battle, over 300 enemies were taken prisoner. Eight light machine guns and more than 300 firearms were seized. Our forces suffered over 50 casualties during the battle. Ou Yangzhen, commander of the battalion’s machine-gun company, led from the front and died a heroic death.
