Tea Huo Soviet Area Anti-"Seven-County Encirclement" Battle Site
The Tea Huo Soviet Area Anti-"Seven-County Encirclement" Battle Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Longchuan County and a classic red tourism attraction.
The Tea Huo Soviet Area Anti-"Seven-County Encirclement" Battle Site is located in Tea Huo Village, Shangping Town, Longchuan County.
In August 1932, Chen Jitang, a warlord in Guangdong, ordered a main regiment along with local militias from the seven counties of Longchuan, Xingning, Wuhua, Pingyuan, Xunwu, Dingnan, and Heping—totaling over 5,000 men, armed with multiple cannons—to launch a ferocious "encirclement and suppression" against the Iron Long Sha Ping Township Soviet Government of the Shang Bei Fu Lian District in the Wuxinglong Soviet Area (i.e., the Tea Huo Soviet Area). Huang Qingding, the head of the Shang Bei Fu Lian District Soviet Government, and Huang Zhengqing, the chairman of the Iron Long Sha Ping Township Soviet Government, led the Soviet soldiers and civilians in a brave counterattack. On one front, they ordered Zhong Qi (a native of Tea Huo Village and leader of the guerrilla squadron familiar with the terrain) to lead a team to cover the evacuation of civilians to hiding places such as Qibi Fort. On the other front, they led district and township officials, guerrillas, militia members, and some civilians to hold out in the Liu Family Mansion’s solitary watchtower fort (the Tea Huo Fort) and bravely resist the enemy. The next day, heavy rain poured down as enemy forces attacked the fort from all sides, but the militiamen held their ground despite the rain. By the third day, the enemy had breached the fort, leaving the defenders inside with no ammunition or food and in critical condition. In the end, apart from over ten militia members and civilians who successfully broke through the siege, the remaining 18 district and township officials, guerrillas, and militia members poured kerosene and rosin oil on the wooden floorboards, straw, and their own bodies before lighting torches. The 18 heroes perished in the flames, all sacrificing themselves heroically.
The Tea Huo Fort is a Qing Dynasty structure, with walls made of compacted lime and sandstone mixture about 80 centimeters thick. The building has a wooden frame and consists of three floors, each approximately 30 square meters. Today, only parts of the ruined walls remain.
In September 1986, it was designated as a key cultural relics protection unit by the Longchuan County Government.
