Former Site of the Longchuan County Committee of the Communist Party of China

The former site of the Longchuan County Committee of the Communist Party of China is located at Yuan Gaorong’s Residence in Yuantian Village, Huilong Town, Longchuan County.

After the failure of the Heshi Uprising, leaders of the Longchuan Special Branch and the County Soviet Government were fiercely hunted down and killed. Survivors were offered bounties for capture and were forced to flee their hometowns in search of livelihoods. The revolutionary struggle in Longchuan gradually shifted from the southern part of the county to the central and northern areas.

To adapt to the new revolutionary situation, in January 1929, the Dongjiang Special Committee decided to establish the Provisional County Committee of the Communist Party of China Longchuan County and the Provisional Revolutionary Committee of Longchuan County in Datangbu, aiming to lead and organize the peasant association in Datangbu as well as those in central and northern Longchuan in resisting rents, abolishing debts, and striking against landlords and gentry. Ye Zhuo served as the secretary of the provisional county committee, with Chen Jinhua as deputy secretary; Hu Suiliang was appointed director of the provisional revolutionary committee, with Zeng Biao and Wu Zilian as deputy directors. At the same time, the Longchuan County Guerrilla Brigade was formed, with Chen Jinhua also serving as its commander. In December of the same year, following the directive from the Guangdong Provincial Committee to the Dongjiang Special Committee — “If work in Longchuan has developed considerably, a county committee may be established” — the Provisional County Committee of the Communist Party of China Longchuan held the first county party member representative conference at Heyuan Beihou, Yuantian, Huilong. Over 30 representatives attended the meeting. The conference passed the establishment of the County Committee of the Communist Party of China Longchuan and the County Revolutionary Committee (County Soviet Government), electing Chen Jinhua as the county party secretary, with Ye Zhuo, Zeng Biao, and Wu Zilian serving as head of the Organization Department, Propaganda Department, and Young Communist League Secretary respectively, and Lan Sumei as head of the Women’s Federation. Yuan Xiangqin was elected director of the County Revolutionary Committee. The offices of the county committee and revolutionary committee were located at Yuan Gaorong’s home in Heyuan Beihou, Yuantian. Two district party committees were set up: Chigang and Longmu. Fu Shitian served as secretary of the Chigang District Committee, and Zhang Quan as secretary of the Longmu District Committee.
