Former Site of the Temporary Committee of the CPC’s Wuhinglong (Wuhua–Xingning–Longchuan) Special District

The former site of the Temporary Committee of the CPC’s Wuhinglong (Wuhua–Xingning–Longchuan) Special District is a cultural heritage site protected by Longchuan County and serves as a patriotic education base.

The former site of the Temporary Committee of the CPC’s Wuhinglong (Wuhua–Xingning–Longchuan) Special District is located at Dayi Rock in Huoshan Scenic Area, Longchuan County.

In the spring of 1928, CPC organizations in Wuhua, Xingning, and Longchuan, following instructions from the Dongjiang Special Committee, organized the “New Year’s Uprising.” On March 27, after Liu Guangxia and Lan Shengqing from the Xingning CPC organization led the 12th Regiment of the Guangdong Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army in an unsuccessful attack on the local militia at Xiabao, they retreated through Yetang to Huoshan with the support of farmers in the Tieshichangqiao area of Longchuan. Meanwhile, some of the peasant soldiers and key Party members who had survived failed uprisings in Wuhua and Heshi, Longchuan, also gradually regrouped at Huoshan. Learning of this, the Nationalist authorities gathered a force of over 1,000 local militiamen from the three counties of Wuhua, Xingning, and Longchuan on April 3 to launch a joint “joint suppression” operation against Huoshan. To break the deadlock and unify command, the Temporary Committee of the CPC’s Wuhinglong County was established, with Ye Zhuo (from Longchuan) elected as secretary, and Liu Guangxia, Lan Shengqing, and Gu Qinghai (from Wuhua) as committee members. The county temporary committee then decided that Liu Guangxia and Lan Shengqing would lead the 12th Regiment in organizing a breakout battle at Dayi Rock, engaging the enemy in fierce combat around areas such as “One-Line Sky” and under Shiphead Rock. A total of 16 workers’ and peasants’ army personnel died heroically and were laid to rest under Shiphead Rock. After the breakout, the troops broke up into smaller units and carried out covert activities along the northern border of Xinglong.

In January 1962, it was designated as a key cultural relics protection unit by the Longchuan County Government. In November 2010, it was announced as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
