Yu’nan Ancestral Temple

Yu’nan Ancestral Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Boluo County.

Yu’nan Ancestral Temple is located in Hexi Village, Longhua Town, Boluo County. It was built in the seventh year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1868) by Guanhuai. The main gate resembles an ancient memorial archway. Below, there are three gates, elliptical in shape: the central gate is 2.9 meters high and 1.6 meters wide, while the two side gates are 2.4 meters high and 95 centimeters wide. The gate frames are constructed from red sandstone. The stone plaque above the central gate inscribed with “Yu’nan Ancestral Temple” was written by Ling Yun, a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations and a member of the Hanlin Academy. Above the stone plaque is a red sandstone tablet engraved with the two seal script characters “Gao Ming” (Imperial Decree).

Inside the main gate is a courtyard, where two frangipani trees are planted. On both sides are wing rooms. The north side is the upper hall, where ancestral tablets are enshrined. The roof is covered with gray cylindrical tiles and features a single-eave, hanging gable roof.

Guanhuai, a native of Hexi Village, Longhua, Boluo, served as the Commander-in-Chief of Ting-Shao in Fujian during the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty. He built the ancestral temple to commemorate his grandfather, Yu’nan.

In 1985, the Boluo County People’s Government designated it as a cultural relic protection unit.
