Boluo County Museum
The Boluo County Museum was established on September 8, 1983, and shares its office space with the Luofu Mountain Cultural Relics Management Office and the County Cultural Relics Management Committee Office. The museum building was constructed in 1984, located in the southeastern part of Luofu Mountain, south of the Dongjiang River, at the square of the Old Town East District, Luoyang Town, Boluo County. It is a local comprehensive museum in Boluo County and a base for patriotic education. The museum faces east and is oriented westward, with a main T-shaped structure consisting of two floors. It is a frame-type reinforced concrete building, covering a site area of 3,000 square meters, a construction area of 1,100 square meters, and an exhibition area of 600 square meters. The entire building is simple and elegant, featuring a national style and local characteristics. The first floor houses a temporary exhibition hall, a reception room, an exhibition interpretation team, an administrative logistics team, and a security team; the second floor includes a permanent exhibition hall, the director’s office, offices, a resource room, a cultural relics archaeology team, and a cultural relics storage room. The surrounding area is landscaped with gardens, offering an elegant environment.
Putting people first and maximizing the museum's functions. As a non-profit institution dedicated to the protection, research, and display of local cultural and natural heritage, the Boluo County Museum has always served the whole society, leveraging its unique cultural educational and research functions. It promotes the dissemination of scientific and cultural knowledge and contributes to the construction of socialist spiritual civilization in Boluo County. Over the past 20 years, while emphasizing the preservation and research of collections, the museum has focused on collections as the core, the museum building as the foundation, and audiences as a central priority. Rather than waiting for visitors to come, the museum actively attracts them. It continuously improves service offerings, innovates service methods, and enriches service content. Leveraging its valuable collection of cultural relics and heritage resources and collaborating with provincial museums, the museum provides the public with richer and higher-level spiritual and cultural products and services, meeting the growing cultural needs of the public. This helps audiences recognize the museum as an ideal venue for cultural leisure, thereby achieving the purposes of visiting, learning, relaxing, and entertaining. This fosters a virtuous cycle of mutual service, mutual promotion, and mutual supervision between the museum and its visitors.
Rich collections with local characteristics. Our county, established during the Qin Dynasty, boasts a long history, abundant cultural relics, and profound humanistic heritage. It is one of the oldest counties in Guangdong Province, rich in historical sites and relics. Known historically as the "City of Banyans," it has a history of over 2,000 years. By 2014, the total number of cultural relics in the museum's collection had reached 20,000 pieces/sets. Among these, there are 7 first-grade relics/pieces/sets; 12 second-grade relics/pieces/sets; 149 third-grade relics/pieces/sets; and more than 20,000 ancient coins.
Scientific planning and building a talent development mechanism. Human resources have become the most crucial strategic asset across all sectors with the advancement of the times, playing an increasingly decisive role in comprehensive national strength competition. From the perspective of scientific development, the Boluo County Museum makes great efforts to coordinate and cultivate professional talents needed for comprehensive development. It fully recognizes that modern human resource management is a process involving the acquisition, integration, retention, motivation, control, adjustment, and development of human resources. Therefore, with the continuous development and innovation of Boluo County’s cultural initiatives, there is a need for more highly qualified professionals to join the cultural workforce. Boluo’s cultural development keeps pace with the times and is forward-looking, supported by a scientifically sound and rational talent development mechanism, ensuring that talent cultivation proceeds in a reasonable, sustainable, stable, harmonious, and healthy manner. Over the years, the museum has periodically sent staff to attend training programs in cities and provinces to learn professional knowledge. Currently, the museum has a staffing of 23, including 1 director, 3 deputy directors, 2 office staff, 2 finance team members, 2 cultural relics archaeology team members, 5 exhibition display team members, 4 administrative logistics staff, and 4 security team members.
Free admission and creating distinctive exhibitions. Display and promotion are the primary functions of a museum and also represent its most distinctive outward appearance, reflecting the museum's comprehensive capabilities and public service awareness. Since its opening, the Boluo County Museum has kept up with the times, adhering to the principles of “effective protection, rational utilization, and strengthened management.” By making full use of its collection resources, introducing exhibitions, and organizing collaborative exhibitions, the museum has organically combined the functions of collection preservation, scientific research, and public education. It has organized various forms of exhibitions, forming a complementary and mutually enhancing exhibition system of basic displays, thematic displays, and temporary exhibitions. These exhibitions reveal the rich cultural connotations and civilizational achievements of historical relics from multiple perspectives. Over the years, based on the museum’s actual conditions, the museum has mainly adopted the approach of “inviting in and going out” for exhibition exchanges. It has collaborated with the Guangdong Provincial Museum and other institutions, successively introducing various types of exhibitions such as the "Foshan Woodblock New Year Painting Exhibition" and the "Zhanjiang Printmaking Exhibition." From 1995 to 1997, it hosted the largest-scale "Fine Arts, Calligraphy, and Photography Exhibition" since the establishment of Boluo County. From 1999 to 2000, it showcased the thematic display "Spring Tide Surges Under Luofu Mountain – A Photographic and Physical Exhibition of Boluo County’s 50-Year Construction Achievements." From 2006 to 2007, it presented the "Guangdong Province Nature Reserves and Rare Animal Specimens Exhibition." From 2010 to 2013, it held the basic display "Exhibition of Fine Cultural Relics Unearthed in Boluo County." To enliven the county’s cultural life, the museum has organized and toured numerous exhibitions loved by the public throughout the region. Through years of experience accumulation and development, the exhibition philosophy of the Boluo County Museum has gradually shifted from a single form of “object-centered” to “people-centered.”
