Sanzhai Valley Papermaking Site

The Sanzhai Valley Papermaking Site is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Guangdong Province.

The Sanzhai Valley Papermaking Site is located in Sanzhai Valley, Hehu Village, Yonghan Town, Longmen County, Huizhou City, dating from the Ming Dynasty to the Republican Era.

Built against the mountains, the Sanzhai Valley Papermaking Site was first established during the Ming Dynasty. The site includes three stone bases of water-powered pestles, stone mortars, and cellars (naturally filled with mountain soil, with outlines of sandy-gray structures visible on the ground), covering an area of about 1,200 square meters. The papermaking facilities were built with river stones for the outer walls, and the stone mortars and bases are made of granite. One stone mortar stands approximately 38 cm high, with an external length of about 50 cm and a diameter of around 28 cm, and the pit is about 20 cm deep. One stone base measures 2.3 meters in length, 53 cm in width, and 35 cm in height. The sizes of the stone mortars and bases vary.
