Witnessing the Growth of the New Revolutionary Army

The former headquarters of the Fourth Red Army Division is located at No. 16 Dinxin Street, Longcheng Subdistrict, Longmen County, in the Longmen County Chamber of Commerce. Originally built during the Qing Dynasty, it features a traditional three-courtyard brick-and-wood structure, with a construction area of 378 square meters and an overall site area of approximately 1,000 square meters.

On December 13, 1927, after the failure of the Guangzhou Uprising, over 1,200 troops who survived the uprising—including the National Revolutionary Army Fourth Army Training Corps, Guard Corps, and the Special Service Battalion of the Whampoa Military Academy, all under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party—broke through the encirclement and moved to Huaxian County. On December 16, a joint party meeting was held at the First Public Primary School of Huaxian County to discuss the reorganization of the troops and their next course of action. The meeting decided to form the Fourth Division of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, with Ye Yong as division commander, Song Xiangtao as deputy commander, and the establishment of the Fourth Division Party Committee, with Tang Wei elected as secretary. On December 20, the Fourth Red Army Division entered Longcheng from Wangping, with its headquarters stationed at the county chamber of commerce on Gukou Street (now Dinxin Street), while more than 1,000 soldiers were billeted at the County Boxun Primary School (now Longcheng No. 2 Primary School). During the rest period, the leadership also discussed the next steps, deciding to move to Haifeng-Lufeng to join the Second Red Army Division and participate in the agrarian revolution.

Longcheng Subdistrict: Established as a subdistrict office in 2005, it administers the former administrative region of Longcheng Town, as well as the Wangping Neighborhood Committee and 13 village committees from the former Wangping Town: Qingxi, Daiwu, Zhangtan, Huangxi, Luchi, Hengtian, Chengxi, Wangping, Huawei, Chencun, Huangzhuli, Jiangxia, and Sandong. It governs a total of 8 neighborhood committees and 19 village committees, covering a total area of 115.5 square kilometers, with a registered population of 70,858. The Longcheng Subdistrict Office is located at the former site of the Longcheng Town government.
