The former site of the people of Jiangxia’s anti-Japanese struggle is located in Jiangxia Village, Longcheng Subdistrict, Longmen County. The site is a four-story watchtower from the Ming and Qing dynasties, built with blue brick walls, featuring a brick-and-wood structure. It stands 16 meters tall, 6 meters wide, and 12 meters long. Each floor of the blue brick wall is equipped with gun ports of varying sizes.

On the afternoon of July 2, 1944, a Japanese squad was marching from Zengcheng to Longmen County. When they reached Zhoutian Village on the outskirts, Japanese scouts discovered that Longmen County had been evacuated—most residents had retreated to nearby places such as Jiangxia Village. As a result, the Japanese changed their plan and headed toward Jiangxia Village. At dusk, upon arriving at the Tanshen Gong Temple in Jiangxia Village, they were spotted by the villagers. The villagers organized young and middle-aged men into a self-defense team to ambush the Japanese, splitting into two groups—one ambushing along the field ridge directly in front of Tanshen Gong Temple, the other hiding on the side of the small hill at Xinzhuang’ao—to block the Japanese advance. During the battle, the villagers used homemade weapons such as earth guns and cannons. Since the Japanese were unfamiliar with the terrain and did not dare to enter the village, they only occupied nearby hills to counterattack. The self-defense team fought back fiercely, resisting from evening until 8 p.m., holding off the Japanese for nearly three hours, killing and injuring over 30 Japanese soldiers, including one colonel. After the battle, the Jiangxia Watchtower was shelled and burned (or blasted), with over 30 houses destroyed. Currently, half of the watchtower has collapsed, and villagers refer to it as the “Half-Side Tower.”
