Huiyang Tiemen Shan

The village of Tiemen Shan in the Huiyang Economic Development Zone, Huiyang District, Huizhou City, is located in the eastern part of Qiuchang Town, Huiyang District, Huizhou, Guangdong Province. It lies to the southwest of the development zone and connects with Danshui Subdistrict. The village comprises several natural villages, including Tiemen Shan, Shantangwei, Shamui Village, and Huangzhuluo.

Tiemen Shan is an area inhabited by the Hakka people. In the first year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1662 AD), a branch of the Ye clan originally from Xingning County migrated under the leadership of Ye Temao to Zhoutian Village in Guihui County. After Ye Temao and his brother divided their household in Zhoutian Village, he led his family to settle in Huangzhuluo. Before the arrival of the Ye clan, the area was already inhabited by Hakka people. At that time, the place was not called Tiemen Shan or Huangzhuluo. Nearby, there was an area called Xiakeng where a few households of different surnames lived scattered across the land. The population was small, the land was not extensively developed, and the surroundings were filled with sand dunes and woods.

Tiemen Shan Village boasts a large collection of Hakka enclosed houses in Qiuchang Town, such as the General’s Residence (Jiangjun Mansion) and Nanyang Building of Nanyang Shiju in Tiemen Shan, as well as the Dafu Mansion and Guilin Building in Shantangwei. Architecturally notable structures include the ancestral house of the Ye clan in Shakeng—Huangzhuluo Zhuyedi Shigou House—and the Old House of the Jinshi Mansion. Common enclosed houses include Huzhaxian, Shaliyuan, Sijiaolou, Tangfang, Xiayuan, Mihuba, Zaibei, and Meilou.
