Former Residence of Deng Zhongyuan

The former residence of Deng Zhongyuan is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province and a classic red tourism site.

The former residence of Deng Zhongyuan is located on Zhuxing Street, Hongxing Community, Danshui Subdistrict. Built in the late Qing Dynasty, it is a two-courtyard clay-tiled house with a quadrangle layout, and is a cultural relic protection unit of Huiyang District.

He studied successively at Chongya Academy and the Guangzhou Military Preparatory School. In 1910, he planned the Guangzhou Uprising. After the outbreak of the Xinhai Revolution, he joined Chen Jiongming and others in an uprising in the Dongjiang region, capturing Huizhou City. He was appointed the First Chief of Staff of Dongjiang, later reorganized into the First Mixed Brigade of the Army, where he served as Brigade Commander. In 1914, Deng Zhongyuan joined the Chinese Revolutionary Party in Japan, serving as Deputy Minister of the Military Affairs Department and Commander-in-Chief of the Guangdong Army against Yuan Shikai. In 1921, he became the Commander of the First Division and concurrently Chief of Staff of the Guangzhou Military Government, leading troops northward with Sun Yat-sen. On March 21, 1922, he was fatally shot upon disembarking at the Kowloon-Canton Railway Station and died on March 23. On March 24, Sun Yat-sen posthumously awarded him the rank of General in the Army. During his service under Sun Yat-sen, he actively promoted the policies of “allying with Russia, cooperating with the Communist Party, and supporting peasants and workers,” making him a loyal friend of the Chinese Communist Party.

In 2015, the People's Government of Guangdong Province designated it as a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

Hongxing Community: Hongxing Community Residents' Committee

Hongxing Community was established in 1954 and was restructured into a community residents' committee in 2002. Located at the junction of the old and new urban areas of Danshui, Huiyang District, it covers an area of 0.41 square kilometers. The community comprises nine residential groups, with a permanent population of 8,016 (over 2,800 households) and a transient population of over 3,000. It has one general Party branch and three sub-branches, with 63 Party members. The community’s “two committees” consist of six cadres in total.
