Scenic area introduction:

Shangju Xiangsi Valley Scenic Area is located in Shangju Town, Pingyuan County, and includes Shenaocun Village and Longwen Village, covering an area of approximately 60 square kilometers. The scenic area is characterized by its high forest coverage, rich biodiversity, and abundant natural and cultural landscapes. The area is densely forested, with a forest coverage rate of 95%, making it the largest contiguous evergreen broadleaf forest region at the junction of Guangdong, Fujian, and Jiangxi provinces, and is hailed as the “green heart” of Pingyuan. The scenic area is home to over 1,000 species of higher plants from more than 170 families, and 254 species of wild vertebrates, earning praise from experts as a “treasure trove of species and the pearl of eastern Guangdong.” It features a variety of natural and cultural resources including rivers, forests, valleys, waterfalls, villages, farmland, and red beans, all blending and developing together.

It is worth mentioning that every December, the maple leaves in the scenic area turn a vibrant red, creating a rich tapestry of colors with varying shades of red and green. Visitors can enjoy the splendid foliage and falling leaves in this picturesque setting. During this time, the scenic area also hosts a “Red Leaf Festival” themed around the maple forest, attracting large numbers of tourists for sightseeing, leisure, and leaf-peeping.
