Pingyuan Lake Scenic Area

Longhu Lake is situated in Hetou Town, Pingyuan County, and is part of the Guangdong Longwen-Huangtian Provincial Nature Reserve, together with the Longwen Scenic Area. Approximately 30 kilometers from the county town, the reservoir was constructed in 1966. The lake spans 6 kilometers in length and holds a water volume of 50 million cubic meters. The area around the lake is thickly wooded with pine and fir trees, and the hillsides along the shore are covered with navel orange groves, spreading out like a green carpet. To the east of the lake lie neat rows of tea plantations, while the southwestern corner is graced by a serene bamboo forest. During the autumn and winter seasons, flocks of migratory birds gather at Longhu Lake for the winter, especially the province’s largest population of mandarin ducks, which play joyfully in the water—an impressive spectacle.

On the southern shore of Longhu Lake stands the Educated Youth Pavilion, a two-story structure. From the pavilion, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful lake. The memorial pavilion is inscribed with the names of over 190 educated youths, and the plaque documents the stories and emotional journeys of that generation.
